Apricot kernel oil originates from northern China, the Himalaya region and northern India. It is rich in the essential fatty acids, oleic and linoleic acid, and is known for its ability to penetrate the skin without leaving an oily feel. Apricot kernel also has moisturising and revitalising properties which makes it popular in products for dehydrated, delicate, aging, sensitive or inflamed skin. Apricot is a relative of the almond and peach, the apricot tree is now native to Spain and cultivated in the Mediterranean and California. It bears soft cream blossoms with pink-yellow centres. It is used in soothing creams and massage oils especially those for the face or to help sooth inflammation and can calm skin irritations. The fact that apricot kernel is high in poly-unsaturated fatty acids makes it especially beneficial when used in facial massage and it is a wonderful all round carrier oil. It can be used on its own, directly on the skin or blended with other carrier oils. Avena are wholesale and retail carrier oil suppliers and have a high turnover of oils ensuring great quality and fresh products. Our cold pressed virgin argan oil is 100% organic. Known by the Moroccan Berber community as the 'Tree of Life', the argan tree has supported the people of these arid regions and their livestock for centuries. The leaves and fruit sustain goats, camels and sheep. Cattle live off the press-cake that remains after the oil has been extracted, the people eat the oil and the nut shells are used for fuel. Argan oil is produced from the kernels of the tree which is a laborious process taking about 12-20 hours of hand processing to produce one litre of oil, making it one of the rarest and most expensive oils of its kind in the world. Often used as a culinary oil, argan has twice as much vitamin E as olive oil and is rich in anti-oxidants, carotenes, squalene and has 80% unsaturated fatty acids, but argan oil has also been documented since the 13th century as a wonderful aromatherapy oil that can be used to nourish and add life to hair, on the nails to strengthen and as a fantastic skin oil. The active substances called triterpenoids that occur in this oil offer amazing skin protection benefits and thus it is considered an effective anti-aging oil due to properties such as the high levels of vitamin E /tocopherols (anti-oxidants help neutralise free radical damage, which is important for skin exposed to polluted Western environments) and saponins (skin-softening agents). Besides cooling and soothing inflammation, it is also reputed to help reduce wrinkles by restoring the skin's hydro-lipid layer. Argan oil is suitable for skin prone to psoriasis, eczema, dry patches and acne and can also help ease the irritation of chicken pox. It's said to reduce scarring and prevent stretch marks. Argan can be used neat on the face and body as a natural beauty treatment. Applied to the skin it is a dry oil that's instantly absorbed and leaves a silky feel that helps improve the skin's appearance and texture. The Berber women have used argan oil for centuries to protect and nourish their skin, hair and nails from the harsh conditions in which they live and now argan oil is rapidly gaining popularity as a 'miracle ingredient' in the Western beauty product industry especially for use on the hair. Its uniquely versatile formula helps to smooth split ends and restore the appearance of damaged hair providing a healthy looking radiant sheen. To use: rub the oil between the palms of the hands and massage into the skin daily or just massage straight into the areas of the body ready to receive extra care. Add a few drops to a bath to soften the skin. Brush through static or dry hair. Massage a drop into the nails to strengthen and protect or use as an ingredient in other massage oils, creams, lotions, shampoos or conditioners.

Our infused Arnica oil is ready to apply directly to the skin or it can be used as a base oil or to make arnica creams or ointments. Arnica (Heterotheca inuloides) is a homeopathic anti-inflammatory that may be used for traumatic injuries such as sprains and strains in the joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons and for backache. Arnica is probably best known as a pain relieving oil that could counteract inflammation and reduce swelling and discoloration on bruises, aiding healing and relieving pain. When blood vessels are broken, blood escapes and comes to rest in the surrounding tissue, this trapped blood is responsible for black and blue bruise marks. Arnica may reduce these marks by enabling the body to reabsorb this trapped blood. Dab onto affected areas (bruises or aching muscles) with cotton wool and massage in twice daily. Note: do not use on broken skin or internally.

Our refined avocado oil is extracted from the flesh of the avocado fruit which consists of up to 30% pure oil. Avocado still carries its nickname 'alligator pear' as the avocado tree was first found growing in the South American swamp lands. It was an important food source and was used as a medicine as well as an aphrodisiac for the Aztec civilization. Recent research in the USA has revealed that avocado oil not only smoothes the surface of the skin but can also penetrate its upper layers absorbing its vital vitamins, monounsaturated fats and EFAs below the skin to help delay degeneration keeping skin looking youthful. Avocado oil would therefore be an excellent ingredient for face creams, lotions and helping to smooth out mature and dry skin. It can also be used in after-shave balms. As the oil absorbs very quickly into the skin it would be excellent for dry and damaged skin, sun care lotions and sun creams, the sterols within the oil have also been shown to be effective as an ingredient for sun screen lotion and creams and it is considered one of the best oils for blocking harmful UV rays. Our avocado oil is light in colour and has no odour meaning it can be applied to the face as an intensive facial treatment. Avocado oil is a mild, nourishing, semi-fatty oil which is rich in vitamins and can used as an additive to other base oils at up to 20% dilution. Avena are wholesale and retail carrier oil suppliers and have a high turnover of oils ensuring great quality and fresh products. Beeswax is produced by honey bees as an exudation from the segments on the underside of the abdomen after gorging on honey or sugar syrup. The bees huddle together in the hive to raise the heat of the group to stimulate the process. Our beeswax is sold as white pellets and will melt at 64C (147F). Beeswax should be melted in a water bath in stainless steel, plastic or tin plated containers as iron, brass or copper containers can colour it. Never place the beeswax pellets directly into a pan or onto a burner as beeswax does not boil, rather it just gets hotter and hotter until it ignites and can cause a fire or can just become damaged by localised overheating. Beeswax is used in soaps, lip balms, and lotion bars as a hardener and thickener or in combination with other oils in creams and lotions where it forms a type of soap that acts as an emulsifier. The white beeswax pellets that we stock are easy to measure and handle. Some of the other uses for beeswax are to make good quality candles that burn brightly with no smoke or splutter and a pleasant aroma, as a coating for sweets and pills, in furniture polishes, for batik dyeing, to coat sewing threads and fly fishing lines, to use on sticky drawers to make them slide more smoothly, to extend the active life of penicillin in the bloodstream, in lost wax casting, as a carving wax, for grafting plants and to coat nails so they are easier to drive into hard woods. We supply 100g of beeswax pellets in a plastic (re-usable) jar or larger amounts packed in bags.

Our infused Comfrey oil is one of nature's greatest medicinal herbs and has been used since about 400 B.C. Throughout the ages comfrey has acquired an unrivalled reputation as a wonderful healing herb. Greeks and Romans used comfrey to stop heavy bleeding, treat bronchial problems, and heal wounds and broken bones. The name comfrey derives from the Latin 'conferre', meaning bring together or grow together. In Medieval times, comfrey's reputation for knitting broken bones flourished and it was commonly referred to as knitbone and often called the heal-all herb. Our infused comfrey oil takes advantage of these wonderful properties, proven over the centuries. We believe that our comfrey oil is an amazing all round healer that may help aid rapid healing for a vast array of skin injuries, broken bones and bone fractures. Comfrey's most important ingredient is the substance allantoin. Allantoin is believed to be a cell proliferator, able to strengthen skin tissue, promoting the growth and multiplication of cells and thus speeding healing. This product is said to act as a wonderful bonesetter, creating a protective casing around joints, potentially assisting healing, encouraging new skin growth and rapidly improving fractures (e.g. fingers, toes, hands, ribs). To use, apply directly to the affected area by massaging into the skin. For more serious conditions users may find it beneficial to soak a bandage or poultice in comfrey oil and to strap it the injured area. Do not use comfrey for deep cuts or lacerations. All dressings should be changed at least once per day. Comfrey oil can also be added to a wide range of aromatherapy products and makes a wonderful ointment.

Evening primrose is a perfect skin care oil, it is moisturising, softening and soothing to dry or irritated skin with a delicate and slightly sweet aroma. An excellent oil for face and body massage blends, particularly for dry, scaly, devitalised and prematurely aging skin. Evening primrose is often used for eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, rosacea and dandruff, it also can accelerate the healing of wounds and scars by forming a protective layer on the epidermis. It keeps the complexion strong and supple, and is consequently a popular ingredient in skin care products. Evening primrose oil is also said to be effective with other conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, endometriosis, schizophrenia, heart disease, diabetic nerve damage and obesity. If using as a carrier oil use as a 10% dilution in a cheaper oil such as sweet almond. Evening primrose oil is extracted from the seeds of a large, delicate, yellow wild flower, first brought to Europe from Virginia in the 1600s. It is a tall spiky plant which grows almost anywhere and is even found in altitudes of up to 9,000 feet in areas such as in the Rocky Mountains. It bursts into bloom early in the evening, hence its name. The tiny seeds are the size of mustard seeds and are hand-harvested. Evening primrose oil is highly unsaturated and rich in fatty acids, especially gamma linolenic acid. G.L.A. is an essential fatty acid the body uses to manufacture hormone-like substances called prostoglandins, which are involved in healthy functioning of many types of body tissues, combating pain and inflammation, regulating the menstrual cycle and controlling blood/cholesterol levels whilst also appearing to have a beneficial effect on the brain and immune system.

Cold pressed flaxseed oil is made from the seeds of a flax plant (Linum usitatissimum) and is also known as linseed oil, but there is a common misconception that the two oils are the same. Technically they are but in terms of the process they go through they are very different. Linseed Oil goes through a different manufacturing process (expeller) and is mainly used in animal and chemical manufacturing. It can be used in cosmetics but it’s basically the cheaper/ lower grade version of flax. Our Flax Oil is 100% Yorkshire grown (in The Dales) and then cold pressed in Goole. This makes it cosmetic grade flax and it is widely used in aromatherapy. Flaxseed oil contains both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids making it a very healthy oil. It also contains the essential fatty acid alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), which the body converts into eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.  Omega-3 fats are said to protect the body from numerous ailments, including heart disease, hypertension and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. Included in its wide range of uses, flaxseed oil is also a popular oil to use when making oil based paints.

We now have an excess stock of empty extra-large jerry cans which we are giving away! Why are they free? Simply because we want to see these recycled and re-used. We often build up an excess stock of 25 and 23ltr jerry cans which we find hard to get rid of. We can put them in our bin or take them to a tip but we know they will only go into landfill from here which we do not want for obvious environmental reasons but also because they are so useful for so many things and clean empty ones retail for a fortune. We only charge £2.99 for the postage to you as we send them separate to all other orders but if you are near to our base in Skipton, North Yorkshire please drop me an e-mail to arrange collection with no charge at all. What you get: the jerry cans are all the 23 or 25 litre size and can be blue, black or white. They have contained carrier oils such as sweet almond, grape seed etc. or bubble bath and shampoo bases. They are empty but not cleaned out inside. We do store these in our yard when empty so they may also need a clean down on the outside. We simply put them in a bin liner, tape it up and post them out. We decided to put them on line as we had so many people passing asking to take them explaining how handy they are but we now have more drums than passing people. A few uses I know about are for water storage when camping or on boats etc, for rain water collection for re-use and watering plants, oil storage, as weights (very heavy when full of water and used to tie down tents and marquees or to simply hold things down). Many outdoor events companies have used them plus they are used on building sites and our local council often pick the odd one up in their van. If you don’t mind giving them a clean inside and out they are a great bargain and you are doing us and the environment a favour by re-using them.

Grape seed oil is pressed from the seeds of various varieties of Vitis vinifera grapes, an abundant by-product of winemaking. The oil is then refined to produce a wonderfully light and highly moisturising oil. Grape seed oil is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It contains more linoleic acid than most other carrier oils. Due to the high linoleic acid value of grape seed oil it is highly moisturising and light, making it ideal for use in skin care. The oil absorbs very quickly into the skin's pores which is why grape seed is an excellent and increasingly popular oil for a variety of skin care applications, massage oils and cream bases especially when used as a base carrier oil for adding essential oil fragrances. Grape seed oil is a preferred cosmetic ingredient for damaged and stressed tissues because it possesses regenerative and restructuring qualities, which allow a better control of re-hydration of the skin. Grape seed oil is also first choice for baby massage over sweet almond oil due to that oil's nut content and we supply a couple of midwifery centres. Our cold pressed hemp seed is not, as so many people assume, the same plant as marijuana. It is a non-narcotic variety that is amazingly versatile, nutritional and environmentally sound. Medicinal uses for hemp plant seed extend as far back as the Ming Dynasty. It contains more naturally occurring essential fatty acids than any other plant-derived oil and a perfect 3:1 Omega-6: Omega-3 EFA ratio. Hemp penetrates the skin to re-moisturise, revive and repair cells damaged by the elements, sun, wind and ultraviolet light. It may be used as a massage or moisturising oil by applying it to the skin as desired. It may also be added to shampoo or conditioner to rejuvenate the scalp. If you choose you may add your favourite essential oil for fragrance. This carrier is very high in unsaturated fatty acids, which makes it a great moisturiser for dry and devitalised skin, especially since it absorbs into the skin very quickly. Pure jojoba oil can be used directly on the skin to assist in fighting wrinkles and to moisturise extra dry or old skin as well as skin plagued with many other ailments or problems. It assists in minimising lines and wrinkles and can actually help to rejuvenate the skin and encourage new cell growth without clogging the skin with greasy oil. Jojoba oil will not block pores or hair follicles which remain open so they can function freely and not cause blackheads or promote acne. It is suspected that jojoba oil tricks the skin into stopping the production of sebum by somehow mimicking it. This also means that jojoba oil will assist in breaking down sebum in plugged pores and the sebum can mix well with jojoba oil without sealing off the skin pores. Dermatologists have also reported jojoba oil as being non-irritating for use on acne, spots and blemishes. Jojoba oil is rapidly absorbed by the skin and another remarkable property is that it is non-greasy and leaves no oily after-feel making it a wonderful skin oil or massage base. This is one of the most popular oils we sell due to its all round benefits including fighting wrinkles as well as dry, or oily skin. Jojoba oil assists in fighting lines due to dryness and keeps the skin supple and soft. It is made from a bean and the resultant jojoba oil is golden coloured, odourless, non-allergic and actually a liquid wax which can solidify easily, if that happens just place bottle in a warm place or warm water for a few moments. The chemical content of jojoba oil is very much like that of the sperm whale oil, you could see jojoba oil as the vegetarian substitute for sperm whale oil. Customer Testimonials

"Hooray hooray at long last I have found a UK supplier of sheeps' wool fat for my terrible feet! It is the only thing that stops them drying up and splitting. In the past I have had to get my sister to send it from Australia at great expense. Many thanks"

Olive oil (from Olea europaea) is extracted from the flesh of the fruit rather than the stone or 'kernel' and is a cold pressed oil. The olives are first left to dry in the sun until they begin to ferment. They are then gently crushed, the stones are removed while still whole, then the flesh of the remaining fruits is used. The oil extracted in this way is then centrifuged and filtered. This relatively lengthy extraction process means that olive oil is also relatively expensive compared with other similar oils.

Our sesame seed (Sesamum indicum) is a cold pressed oil. Sesame seed oil has been used as a healing oil for thousands of years. It is naturally antibacterial, antiviral and an anti inflammatory agent. It penetrates into the skin quickly and enters the blood stream through the capillaries. Molecules of sesame seed oil maintain good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol. In both the small intestine and the colon, some cells are nourished by fat instead of sugar. The presence of sesame seed oil can provide those cells with essential nourishment. In an experiment at the Maharishi International College in Fairfield, Iowa, students rinsed their mouths with sesame oil, resulting in an 85% reduction in the bacteria which causes gingivitis. As a throat gargle, it kills strep and other common cold bacteria or as a massage it helps sufferers of psoriasis and dry skin ailments. It has been successfully used in the hair of children to kill lice infestations and used after exposure to wind or sun to calm sunburn. It nourishes and feeds the scalp to control dry scalp dandruff and to kill dandruff causing bacteria. It protects the skin from the effects of chlorine in swimming pool water. Very good for facial application and good for acne controlling eruptions and neutralises the poisons which develop both on the surface and in the pores.

The nuts of the shea fruit are dried and then ground to make a fine paste which then sets to become shea butter. A universal and irreplaceable beauty care product, shea butter gets to work deep in the skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It has vitamins A and E and is good for all skin types but is particularly recommended for dry and very dry skin. Shea butter is an excellent moisturiser and can provide protection from the UV rays of the sun as well as hot winds carrying dust and fine sand that dry the skin. Shea butter is also often used as a wonderful skin cream for infants. Shea butter is an ivory colour and is a semi solid butter which is quite hard when set but melts on your skin or when warmed by the body's heat. Due to its high fatty acid content (mainly stearic and oleic acids) it is often used in high quality skin care products for its ability to aid with skin elasticity and moisturising properties. It is also used in many quality soap and bath products for its emollient properties. Shea butter is also popular in hair care and is said to revitalise and add bounce, shine and lustre to normally dull or dry hair. Supplied in a 200g jar or larger sizes in bags. St. John's Wort infused oil is a universal carrier oil often used by aromatherapists when preparing massage blends and creams. It is widely used for bruises, sprains and aching muscles due to is anti-inflammatory properties, and is often used by herbalists to help speed the healing of wounds and sores, skin irritations and burns. St. John's Wort is not a new herbal treatment, but one that has been handed down for hundreds of years. Once known to pharmacists as red oil or Hypericum liniment, it was still available in pharmacies in the early 20th century. The practice of soaking the flowers in olive oil, infusing the oil in the sun and then using the oil internally as a diuretic or externally as an application for wounds dates at least to the time of the first edition of Gerarde's Herball from 1597. Such is the success of the oil the German government allows St. John's Wort preparations to be labelled for the treatment (or after treatment) of such conditions as sharp or abrasive wounds, muscular pain as well as first degree burns. Our oil is a wonderful quality and infused using sunflower oil.
